Thai GP Practice: Marquez Charges Ahead, Rivals Ready to Pounce ⚡π
Friday’s Practice at the PT Grand Prix of Thailand had it all – blazing lap times, heart-in-mouth moments, and enough track drama to set the stage for an unmissable weekend at Chang International Circuit! Leading the charge was none other than Marc Marquez (#93) with a scorching lap of 1:29.165, edging out Jorge Martin by just 0.110 seconds. π
Let’s dive into Friday’s action and see what’s got everyone buzzing! π️πΉπ
Marquez Sets the Pace π₯
Marc Marquez isn’t here to mess about! He put down an epic lap time early on, grabbing the top spot and staying there till the end. Marquez’s 1:29.165 was enough to fend off a charging Jorge Martin from Prima Pramac Racing, who finished Friday in second. With Marquez back to his dazzling best and Martin hot on his heels, it’s shaping up to be an epic Thai GP!
Martin on the Money, Bastianini Bounces Back π₯πͺ
Jorge Martin kept it tidy to finish safely inside the top 10 – crucial as we head into Saturday’s qualifying. Ducati Lenovo’s Enea Bastianini, aka ‘The Beast’, also found his stride after an early crash at Turn 3. Despite the setback, he pulled off an impressive lap in the final moments, landing back in contention. An intense session, but these lads are built for it! π§
Early Crashes for Savadori & Bastianini π¬
The session didn’t start smoothly for everyone! Lorenzo Savadori (Trackhouse Racing) and Bastianini both took a spill in the opening laps, though thankfully, both riders were unhurt. With times tighter than ever – only 0.445 seconds separated the top 15 in the first 40 minutes – every fraction of a second counts. But as we hit the last 15 minutes, the time attacks rolled in. Brad Binder from Red Bull Factory Racing looked set to take the lead before Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) and Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP™) picked up the pace. Just when it looked like anyone’s game, Marquez snatched back control to close Friday fastest! ππͺ
Bagnaia, ViΓ±ales & the Top 10 Finishers π️
Francesco Bagnaia, the reigning World Champion, is keeping up the pressure. Bagnaia ended Friday in fourth, less than two-tenths off Marquez’s blistering time as he finesses the setup of his GP24. Aprilia’s Maverick ViΓ±ales was on top form too, clocking in at fifth and giving it some serious welly through the day. ViΓ±ales’ impressive pace saw him finish just ahead of Franco Morbidelli (Prima Pramac Racing), who took sixth.
After a rough weekend in Australia, Pedro Acosta came back strong, landing in seventh. Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing) put in over 20 laps, finishing eighth after dominating the third sector. Marco Bezzecchi (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) took ninth, and Johann Zarco (CASTROL Honda LCR) grabbed that all-important tenth spot to round out the top 10.
Back to the Garage for Binder, Miller & Quartararo π ️
Not everyone had their best day. Brad Binder and Jack Miller from Red Bull KTM Factory Racing will have to regroup overnight and battle it out in Q1 on Saturday. Joining them will be Quartararo and a determined Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) for what promises to be an intense Saturday showdown. Aprilia Racing’s Aleix Espargaro wrapped up the day over two seconds behind the leaders, choosing to stay in the pits as he recovers from a crash in FP1.
